Disney California Adventure Park gets Frozen for the summer
Preceding the Broadway takeover that’s currently scheduled for 2018, Frozen is heating up the west coast at Disneyland’s California Adventure in an all-new stage show.
“Frozen Live,” which premiered at California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater on May 27, is a lovely and family-friendly 45-minute theatrical version of the film, with equally blockbuster ambitions and a racially diverse cast.—LA Times
The show itself looks unbelievably stunning: Facebook was flooded with bootleg clips of the show, highlighting Elsa’s showstopper “Let It Go.” The early consensus? People weren’t fans of Anna’s voice, and Elsa seemed to have “first night jitters.”
Fans of California Adventure are passing tougher judgment over Frozen: Live for a completely different reason: Aladdin – A Musical Spectacular ran for a remarkable 13 years at the 2,000 seat Hyperion Theater, and so far, the majority of what I’ve read online is on Team Aladdin.
What do YOU think? For the moment, I’ve found the show in its entirety on YouTube. If you have an hour, you can watch some incredible stage magic (that dress reveal during “Let It Go” is EVERYTHING) and see if the stage show lives up to the movie.
